Question of the day: social media

Why is this world so happy with social media??

With the advent of smart phones, text messages make a birthday wish less significant in contrast to an actual phone call. The sincerity of asking someone out with fear of rejection was exchanged for asking them out via text or email, receiving an answer with no emotion attached or possibly not getting an answer at all.

Are you content with this? I’m not.

As socially inept as many people are in this world, we are all going to be even more inept in the coming years. As technology advances and the popularity of social sites like twitter and facebook find more ways to keep us staring at computer screens and not interacting with real people, we grow more emotionless, lazy and socially awkward.

Of course there are benefits of text and email and of course social media but that’s beside the point.

We live in a 3 dimensional world why would you want to experience it or any person through a 2 dimensional screen?

Personally I like to see it, feel it, hear it, receive emotion from it. There’s a world of sensual experience out there, why would you leave it to a computer screen to lay it on you?

I hear many stories of I met “so and so” online or via facebook. It’s pretty much the farm where people find their social partners and spend much of this time gazing into eachother’s lives via a screen.

Wouldn’t you rather spend that time in person or hear their voice or smell the scent of that person? I would.

My point with this is that as the world grows smaller because everything is more within your grasp via computers and the Internet but the tangible world around you, the room or bedroom you keep your computer is shrinking around you. Get out of that room and once again take the the to get to know someone for who they really are and not thru their “file” or rather social media profile. “Match.com didn’t work for me.” Never been a member nor do I see myself on it…

Social interaction (in person) > social media (on my laptop)

Even at this moment I’m talking to “YOU” without talking to you. Imagine that…

At any rate, i woke up this morning with a quick “QOTD” but it turned into a long rant.. I hope this raised an eye brow with you. Call me don’t text me. Lol…

Jus some thoughts
